The Honorable Elizabeth W. Sexton will be the special guest speaker for the April 11 meeting of the COD Paralegal Club, 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. in BIC-1407 on the main Glen Ellyn campus. This special Q&A session is free of charge and open to all students and paralegals from the community.
Judge Sexton graduated from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, in 1977, with a bachelor of arts degree in history, Ms. Sexton went to work as a paralegal. She then attended Chicago Kent Law School, where she earned her JD with highest honors in 1984. Having practiced insurance defense law and general litigation, she became a judge when she was appointed to the 18th Judicial Circuit in 1996, and was re-appointed to a four-year term last July.
Judge Sexton initially spent five months in the traffic division, following which she served as a floater in the Domestic Relations division for one year. Then she was assigned to Family Court — a pilot program in the 18th circuit, involving families simultaneously involved in divorce as well as in at least one case in the juvenile or domestic violence areas. Recently, Judge Sexton was assigned to the misdemeanor division.
