This message was sent to us from Jenna Holakovsky, student representative of HAVEN:
HAVEN, a student- run club, is hosting an event this evening, April 24, 2012. See flier below for more details.
“Haven” stands for Human Aesthetics for Valued Equality and Non-discrimination. Its mission is to explore new cultures and advocate for human rights.
Invisible Children (IC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to bring the end of Joseph Kony and his terrorist army, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). Joseph Kony is the leader of the LRA and together they are responsible for crimes against children, including child abductions to force violent military service.
Young individuals, usually interns of IC, travel the country visiting schools and various other venues sharing the message hoping to grow support. These individuals are called “roadies”. Some of them have their own mini-web series. The Midwest roadies are in charge of visiting bookings in the Midwest area.
Oyella Jane is a survivor of the LRA and she will tell her story of escaping these child abductions.
Kony 2012 is the film that went viral last month. It is a 30min short film inspiring individuals to get involved with IC and making the issues of the LRA known.
There will be screenings of the Kony 2012 short film that went viral last month, raising awareness of the plight of the “Invisible Children”.
