Monday, March 11, 8:45 a.m. to noon
DuPage County Courthouse
Judge Blanche Fawell has graciously invited us to visit her felony courtroom at the DuPage County Courthouse! Students can observe the proceedings in the courtroom, and Judge Fawell will talk with students afterwards. In the past, she has even allowed students to try on her robe and sit where she sits when she is presiding. This is a wonderful opportunity!
Judge Fawell is in Courtroom 4012. The courtroom doors open at 8:45 a.m., and court will be over for the morning at noon. Of course, it is difficult to determine exactly how long things will last as every court call varies in length. Students may come in at any time. The courtroom is open to the public, and people come and go throughout the morning. Anyone who wants to hear Judge Fawell’s remarks will need to stay until the court session is over.
Remember that anyone entering the courthouse must go through airport-like security. Only attorneys may have cell phones in the building. All other attendees must leave cell phones and cameras in their vehicles.
This is a great opportunity to earn LEX hours!
We would like to know how many people are coming, so please RSVP to email@example.com by March 8.
UPDATE: Judge Robert Anderson has also agreed to let us meet with him in his chambers. He is a Juvenile Court judge, and since juvenile court proceedings are closed to the public, we won’t be able to view the proceedings. However, we will be able to view his courtroom when the litigants are not present and meet with him for a private conversation in his chambers.
You won’t want to miss this opportunity to meet with two DuPage County judges and learn about the inner workings of the court system!
Since this event takes place off campus, it is not an officially-sponsored COD Paralegal Club event. Neither COD Paralegal Club nor College of DuPage is responsible for student safety. Attendees assume all risks associated with attendance.
