On Monday, March 23, from 8:45 am until noon, we will have an opportunity to meet with two DuPage County judges, observe felony court proceedings, and get an introduction to the juvenile court.
Associate Judge Liam Brennan will meet with us in his courtroom before the court call begins, at 8:45 am, to explain the workings of the felony court. He will allow us to stay in the courtroom to observe that morning’s court proceedings. Later that morning, we will visit Circuit Judge Robert Anderson’s juvenile court (the proceedings are closed to the public, so no litigants will be present during our visit) where we will meet the courtroom staff, learn about juvenile court, and tour Judge Anderson’s chambers.
This event is not an official Paralegal Club event, but an optional off-campus enrichment activity. However, the club secretary has agreed to maintain the list of those who would like to attend. If you would like to attend, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, and indicate “Felony Court/Juvenile Court March 23 Visit” in the Subject line.
NOTE: Contrary to the information that was published earlier, we are now able to accommodate up to 40 students! If you haven’t signed up yet and want to attend, use the information above to add your name to the list!
You will earn up to three hours of LEX credit for attending – one hour for every hour you remain, with a maximum of three hours possible. You will be responsible for your own transportation. The College assumes no liability for any loss or harm that may occur as a result of attending this event.
This is an excellent opportunity to be “behind the scenes” of two fascinating courtrooms, and I hope you will take advantage of it!
