Paralegal Position – Office of the State Appellate Defender

The Office of the State Appellate Defender, a state agency that represents indigent criminal defendants on appeal, is seeking a paralegal in its Chicago office. General duties include reviewing appellate records, obtaining transcripts and documents for appellate review, client correspondence and drafting of “administrative” motions. The paralegal also functions as a liaison between this office and the clerk of the circuit court and court reporter’s office. Because ongoing communication with court personnel is key to this position, excellent verbal and written communication skills required. This position requires travel (2-3 days a week) to the Cook County criminal court facility in Chicago as well as the Cook County Juvenile Court facility. Car is required. Mileage reimbursement is provided. Will consider candidate with no experience who can demonstrate ability to learn. Undergraduate degree preferred, but not required.
