Constitution Day 2018

College of DuPage to Commemorate Constitution Day 2018

In observance of Constitution Day, College of DuPage will host “The United States Constitution and Immigration: A Nation of Immigrants?” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, in the William J. Bauer Mock Courtroom located in the Homeland Security Education Center at COD’s Glen Ellyn Campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
During the event, Immigration Attorneys Elizabeth McGuan, Neil Levine, and Rocio Becerril will discuss the current administration’s travel ban and its relationship to the Constitution. Three COD Paralegal students—Melanie Corpe, Inez Karlsson and Karin Mandigo—will also discuss their insights about their immigration experiences.
Students can also win a $50 Starbucks gift card by emailing photos of themselves in front of flags or posters of the Constitution in the International Hall (BIC lower level, near the bookstore) to CODConstitutionDay@cod.edu. The deadline for the photo contest is September 18.
In addition, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the COD Library atrium, participants can examine the text of the Constitution and rewrite its words by hand. Handwriting the Constitution is a nation-wide project that encourages studying and reflecting on the supreme law of the United States through writing. Participants can share their handwritten examples with a global audience by posting online using the hashtag #handwritingtheconstitution.

One LEX hour. You must sign in with either Sally Fairbank or Linda Jenkins.
